As part of its master plan for the complete redevelopment of the Roger-Gaudry Pavilion, the Université de Montréal entrusted LLA with the task of relocating the offices of the General Secretariat and the Archives for a five-year period. Based on information provided by the university, our team put together a complete inventory of existing furniture. This allowed LLA to identify what could be reintroduced in the renovated spaces and to make proposals in terms of acquisitions for the temporary workspaces.
The architectural team’s overall concept was to make every enclosure as transparent as possible. Prefabricated full-height glass partitions were used for offices along the building’s perimeter thus allowing natural light to penetrate the open plan area with its workstations. The Secretariat’s temporary premises also include a staff lounge and a state-of-the-art meeting room.
The Archives were relocated in an area where most existing partitions were kept. Storage modules and furniture were recuperated from various services within the Pavilion also being revamped. The introduction of contemporary workspaces within the Pavilion’s unique architectural settings required great respect on the part of the architectural team.
